Sticking hands chi sau is personal and unique to each individual based on habits of movement, personality, likes and dislikes. If you let these factors predominate you lose sensitivity to feel your opponent and the ability to know what they do before they even do it. You then have to rely on being faster and/or stronger than the opponent which is better suited to distance fighting. Sensitivity requires you to be calm and centered and allows you to know all about the opponent as soon as they touch you, to slow them down when they start moving and to control them without really having to be faster than them.
