In a fight you need to protect your core torso and face while maintaining structure and rapidly responding by connecting and disconnecting your hands to and from your body. Power comes from the structure and speed allows you to close the space and catch the opponent’s timing. Their is a fine balance between speed and power. Speed alone without power is only functional in a demonstration. In an actual street altercation it is much easier to maintain structure than to perform rapidly to catch the opponent’s timing due to the emotions of fear and/or anger.
